Chat channels
Set up Viber
A Viber bot people message directly, one to one. Viber IDs are private — unlike a Telegram username or a phone number, nobody can be set up by their Viber identity ahead of time; people are assigned to their account after they message once, or link themselves with a code from the web chat.
Before you start
- A Viber bot account, created at partners.viber.com (name, avatar, category — a few minutes). Copy its token from the account's info page — the only credential this channel needs; incoming messages are checked against it as genuinely coming from Viber.
- A public https address for this deployment, set as the public base URL under Settings. Viber requires it: the webhook is registered with Viber automatically when you press Test, so get that address right first.
- Chat channels → Viber: paste the Bot token, and optionally a Sender name — shown on every reply bubble, 28 characters at most; blank shows “Assistant”. Create, then Test.
- Test names the bot and, when the public base URL is https, registers the webhook (“Webhook registered — messages arrive from now on”). If it asks for a public https base URL in Settings instead, fix the address and Test again.
- Open the bot in Viber and send it a message to confirm end to end — the channel's checklist ticks “First message received”.
How people use it
A new conversation opens with a welcome that says what to do: ask anything about the company's documents, or send a link code to use your own account's access. Then a person just types — /new starts a fresh conversation, /help lists the commands. Only text is read: a sticker or voice note gets a request to type the question. A reply carries the answer's short form with its [n] citation markers; a linked person also gets one link into their own web chat, where the full answer lives. Viber bots don't support group chats, so every conversation is private.
Access
Everyone who messages the bot appears in the channel's people list (Manage people); a stranger shows as “not assigned”. Pick their account and press Assign — from their next message they ask with that account's own document access. A signed-in person can instead link themselves: “Link messaging apps” in the web chat gives a one-time code, valid ten minutes, to send to the bot as a message. Anyone not yet assigned is told how to link, unless you've opened guest access groups on this channel — then unassigned senders read from those groups instead.
If Test reports “Viber refused the webhook URL”, the public base URL in Settings isn't reachable over HTTPS — fix it and Test again; “Viber rejected the token” means it was mistyped or revoked, so copy it afresh. Replies are cut at 6,800 characters. Disabling the channel stops answers at once and keeps its setup and history.
