Set up Front
Connect Front to make your shared inboxes searchable — each conversation becomes a document with the whole thread, internal comments labelled, quoted reply chains stripped, tied to its inbox, customer, assignee and tags. Read-only.
Before you start
- In Front, open Settings → Developers → API tokens → Create API token.
- Give the token the Shared resources scope — that reads the team's shared inboxes without impersonating anyone.
- Only reads are ever issued against Front.
- Documents → Front, paste the API token.
- Optionally list Inboxes to sync (one name or id per line) under Advanced to narrow the sync — blank reads every inbox the token can see.
- Optionally set History to sync (days) under Advanced (default 365).
- Choose access groups, Test, then Sync.
What comes in
- Each conversation becomes a document titled from its subject or last message, carrying status, inbox, customer, assignee and tags.
- Messages and teammate comments render underneath, with quoted reply chains stripped so only what was actually written shows; comments are labelled internal note.
- Deleted and spam conversations are left out.
| Inboxes to sync | Optional — inbox names or ids, one per line, to narrow the sync to just those inboxes (matching is case-insensitive). Blank reads every inbox the token's scope covers. |
|---|---|
| History to sync (days) | How far back conversations are read on a sync — conversations last active earlier than this aren't read. Default 365 days. |
Access
Documents synced from Front are visible only to the access groups chosen when the source is set up — access is allow-only.
Only the 2,000 most recently active conversations across all synced inboxes together are read each sync — the cap applies to that combined, most-recent-first list, so one very active inbox cannot crowd out a quieter inbox's still-in-window conversations. Conversations already synced stay searchable once they age out.
