Feedback & forms
Set up Canny
Connect Canny to make your feedback boards searchable — each post becomes a document with its status, a vote count, its board and author, and the discussion under it. Read-only.
Before you start
- The credential is a Canny API key, from Settings → API & webhooks — copy the API key shown there.
- The key only reads. It can list boards, posts and comments; it can never write back to Canny.
- In Canny open Settings → API & webhooks and copy the API key.
- Documents → Canny, paste it into API key.
- Optionally list board names in Boards to sync only those, and choose whether staff-only comments come in under Internal comments.
- Choose access groups, Test, then Sync.
What comes in
- Every post becomes a document: its status, a vote-count band rather than the exact live number, the board it's on, its author, and the discussion beneath it.
- The discussion is read only for posts that are new or changed since the last sync, so unchanged posts cost nothing on a steady sync.
| Boards | Optional — board names, one per line, to sync only those. Blank syncs every board the key can see, private boards included. |
|---|---|
| Internal comments | Whether comments marked internal (staff-only in Canny) appear inside a post's document. Included by default; can be set to leave them out. |
Access
Canny exposes no per-item viewers to mirror, so access is decided entirely by the groups chosen when the source is set up. Private boards sync whenever the key can see them — it's the access groups chosen here, not Canny's own board visibility, that decide who may ask about them. Access stays allow-only.
Vote counts are stored as a band (1000+, 500+, …) rather than the live number, so a stray upvote alone doesn't re-sync a post — a status change, an edited post or a changed comment count does. Each board keeps at most its 1,500 newest posts.
