Set up Mattermost

Connect Mattermost — on your own server — to make channel history searchable: each channel becomes monthly chat-log documents, thread replies indented under their root post. This is a document source, separate from the Chat channels feature that lets the assistant answer inside Mattermost itself. Direct and group messages are never read. Read-only.

  1. In Mattermost open Profile → Security → Personal Access Tokens → Create Token (a System Admin must enable personal access tokens under System Console → Integrations). A bot account's token works too.
  2. Documents → Mattermost, enter the server URL and paste the token; optionally list channels to sync only those.
  3. Choose access groups, Test, then Sync.

What comes in

Access

Private channels mirror their own membership: everyone Mattermost lists as a member becomes a viewer here too, re-checked on every sync. A public channel always carries the access groups chosen on this source instead — and a private channel whose roster can't be read falls back to those same groups rather than going ungoverned. Access stays allow-only: being a member, or being in the source's chosen groups, is what lets someone ask about it. Switch How access works to “One list for everything” under Permissions to put everything this source brings in under the chosen access groups instead.

The token reads exactly what its account is a member of — add the account (or bot) to a channel before its history can be searchable here. Months already synced stay searchable when they scroll out of the sync window.
